VALERECO
Valorization Legumes Related Ecosystem Services
VALERECO will identify, valorise and disseminate the legume-related ecosystem services to promote the adoption of legume crops and enhance understanding of their value towards transition to sustainable, productive, climate-neutral, environment-friendly and resilient farming systems.
VALERECO aims to develop an EU-wide legume ecosystem to identify barriers and enablers of legume adoption and provide services on the economic and environmental benefits of their widespread inclusion into EU agricultural systems to promote biodiversity.
The establishment of and co-creation through the Living Labs will be the core of the identification, valorisation and dissemination of the legumes ES, bringing together actors from different parts of the agri-food value chain to develop, test and assess solutions promoting legume adoption.
To ensure the results uptake, VALERECO will create a “One-stop-shop” for legume information, the Digital Legume Information Hub (DLIH), which will include a Decision Support Tool (DSS) and an E-learning platform.

Unlocking the benefits of legumes: Boosting sustainability of agroecosystems
- 15 partners
- 11 countries
- 12 Legume crops
- 9 Living Labs in 6 countries
- 8 major legume & 4 minor legumes
- > 120 agroecological practices combinations tested
reframe.food as a leader of WP6 will strive to maximise the impact and uptake of VALERECO results through the planning, creation and implementation of a dissemination, exploitation and communication (DEC) plan. Moreover, reframe.food will create effective IPR strategies for the project to ensure VALERECO’s sustainability after completion.
In detail, reframe.food will:
- Set up a multi-dimensional dissemination and communication strategy to maximise impact on its results
- Create a leguminous crop stakeholders’ ecosystem
- Boost knowledge exchange and capacity building on the efficacy and sustainability of legume-based value chains
- Provide best practices to increase nitrogen fixation in diversified farming systems
- Protect and ensure the sustainability of the project’s key exploitable results through IPRs
