BioValueAI: Digital Innovations for Circulair Bioeconomy
BioValueAI is a Horizon Europe project helping Europe’s bio-based industries make better use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and digital technologies to become more sustainable, resource-efficient and competitive.
Many bio-based industries still face challenges such as fragmented data, limited use of AI and difficulties in measuring and improving sustainability. BioValueAI addresses these challenges by developing practical digital solutions that support better decision-making, improve production processes and turn bio-based data into valuable insights.
The project will develop, test and validate its solutions through five real-world industrial use cases covering cacao valorisation, bio-based coatings, precision fermentation, hemp value chains and biorefinery feedstock optimisation. These demonstrations will show how AI, digital twins and advanced data analytics can improve resource efficiency, reduce waste and support more circular and climate-neutral production systems.
BioValueAI combines expertise from research organisations, industry, technology providers and social scientists to ensure that its solutions are not only technically effective but also trustworthy and relevant for society. By involving stakeholders throughout the project and embedding ethical, legal and social considerations from the outset, BioValueAI aims to accelerate the responsible uptake of AI across Europe’s bioeconomy and support the transition towards more resilient and sustainable bio-based value chains.
