reframe.food announces the launch of opencalls.fund, a digital tool designed to simplify access to European funding opportunities.

opencalls.fund aims to serve as a central gateway for accessing European funding, such as that available through Horizon Europe, the EU’s flagship research and innovation programme, for professionals and organisations active in the broader agrifood, environment, and biodiversity ecosystems, including soil and water resource management, rural development, and circular bioeconomy fields.

More possibilities, fewer obstacles

The European Commission’s Financial Support to Third Parties (Cascade Funding) mechanism is a significant tool for fostering innovation that provides financial support through ongoing EU-funded projects. However, for many stakeholders (especially those without prior experience), the process remains complex and difficult to navigate.

opencalls.fund provides a user-friendly environment with a simplified application process, making it accessible to both newcomers and experienced applicants. Its philosophy, which is part of reframe.food’s broader mission, is captured in the phrase “Find. Apply. Fund. Grow.”, clearly reflecting its goal to make the processes for the development of ideas and initiatives easier.

Who can participate

opencalls.fund targets a wide range of professionals and organisations, from startups and SMEs to universities, research institutes, public authorities, NGOs, and individual professionals active in agrifood and related sectors.

“This is an excellent opportunity for companies that are just beginning their journey into European funding. The opportunities hosted on opencalls.fund are ideal for first-time applicants, featuring clear selection criteria, a user-friendly interface, and a straightforward application process. Our goal is to support professionals and organisations in the agrifood sector to implement their ideas and take their first step toward securing European funding,” says Grigoris Chatzikostas, Partner at reframe.food.

Dimitris Fotakidis, Partner at reframe.food, adds, “We created opencalls.fund to make financial support more accessible to professionals working in areas such as smart agriculture, biodiversity, and sustainable natural resource management. Through opencalls.fund, stakeholders can identify relevant funding opportunities and, by following clear guidelines and simplified procedures, easily and efficiently submit their applications.”

Evaluators: A key link in the funding chain

opencalls.fund also offers opportunities for individuals (scientists, researchers, and professionals) who possess the expertise to contribute as evaluators of submitted funding proposals. Evaluators are remunerated in accordance with European Union guidelines. In this way, opencalls.fund serves as an end-to-end management tool for the evaluation process, ensuring transparency and efficiency at every stage.

Stavros Tsitouras, Partner at reframe.food, notes that “reliability is one of the fundamental pillars of opencalls.fund. We have invested in infrastructure that ensures smooth and impartial operation, even when managing a high volume of applications.”

Open Calls

This year, the open call for the European project RURBANIVE concluded, with €600,000 in available funding.

Currently, two funding opportunities are open on opencalls.fund:

  • FS4Africa project’s open call with total funding of €600,000: The call aims to support research and technology stakeholders in Africa to develop and implement innovative solutions for improving food safety in the informal sector.

Upcoming Calls

  • Path4Med project’s call (October 2025) with total funding of €500,000: Invites public authorities to adopt and implement sustainable agriculture solutions to address soil and water pollution.
  • 2026 Calls: A total budget of €4,260,000, covering the topics of bioeconomy, sustainable rural value chains, food security, fair trade for sustainable and healthy food in Africa, tech solutions for the wine sector, and digital technologies supporting activities such as functional foods and medicinal and aromatic plants.
