How can cities become active spaces for producing, learning about and accessing healthier and more sustainable food?
This is one of the questions at the heart of UrbanFood, a new Horizon Europe project that officially launched with its Kick-off Meeting at the Agricultural University of Athens on 15–16 September 2026.
Coordinated by CERTH, UrbanFood will work with cities, researchers, organisations, businesses and citizens to develop healthier, more inclusive and climate-friendly urban food systems.
Through Urban Food Living Labs, the project will test practical solutions in real-life settings, including urban cultivation systems, community-led initiatives, education and knowledge-sharing activities, digital tools and approaches that support healthier and more sustainable food choices.
The project places citizens and local communities at the centre, with a strong focus on developing the knowledge, skills and capacity needed for successful approaches to continue beyond the project itself.
reframe.food’s role

RFF will lead the project’s DEC strategy and stakeholder engagement, while also supporting exploitation, Intellectual Property Rights, business models and market uptake to help project results create value beyond the project’s lifetime.
