A new Horizon Europe project, GrassConnect, officially began this September, bringing together researchers, farmers, industry, policymakers and other actors to strengthen the multifunctionality and resilience of Europe’s grass-based livestock systems.
The consortium met in Clermont-Ferrand, France, from 15–17 September 2026 for the project’s Kick-off Meeting, marking the start of a four-and-a-half-year collaboration coordinated by INRAE.
Grasslands play an important role not only in food production and rural livelihoods, but also in carbon sequestration, water purification, biodiversity and landscape conservation. GrassConnect will work to better assess and monitor these ecosystem services and translate scientific knowledge into practical tools and approaches for farmers and other grassland actors.
A central part of the project will be its 13 Multi-Actor Grassland Hubs across 11 countries, where different stakeholders will work together to identify needs, exchange knowledge and test locally adapted solutions.

reframe.food leads the MAGHub Management Unit, supporting the coordination and implementation of activities across the 13 hubs. RFF also leads Work Package 6 on Dissemination, Exploitation and Communication, helping translate project results into accessible resources, supporting demonstrations and peer-to-peer learning, building synergies with other initiatives and contributing to the long-term uptake of GrassConnect’s results.
